The time is now to update Kapaun Mt. Carmel's Parking Lots, offering safe parking for all students.
For years the freshmen of Kapaun Mt. Carmel have been parking off campus in the Brookhollow neighborhood, utilizing Tara street for unsanctioned parking. It is not safe for the students to cross the road, especially later in the evening. Young students, especially girls, should not be walking alone. It has been a severe nuisance to the neighborhood that does not want the cars to be parked there. The time is now for Kapaun Mt. Caramel to request formal funding, donations, and to forumlate a plan to provide adequate, safe parking for all students.
Proposed Project Phases
Kapaun currently utilizes assigned parking stalls, which is a waste of valuable real estate. Parking should be available on a first come first serve basis.
Phase 1 is a $0 incentive that can be easily implemented.
At any given time 30-100 stalls go unused during a school day due to assigned stalls. (15-20% of student stalls go unused)
Hire an Architect to conduct a parking study and suggest plans to restripe and optimize existing space. This could include converting the 90 degree parking to angled 60 degree parking stalls allowing for narrower one-way circulation.
This phase would also pre-plan for Phase 3 through Phase 6.
Phase 2 upside is additional parking, and fresh restriping, optimizing existing parking facilities, for a very low cost. Approximate cost $20,000 - $30,000.
Add approximately 50 new parking stalls in the grassy area by the Southwest entrance.
The approximate 12,000 square foot grass area is the first and easiest area to add substantial parking accommodations. Approximate cost $45,000 - $60,000.
Add approximately 50 to 60+ additional parking stalls behind the Kapaun LED Marquee.
The approximately 15,000+ square foot grass area behind the main Kapaun sign could easily be reworked and paved. Ideally Phase 4 and Phase 5 could be conbined to connect the two parking facilities and streamline the entire campus Approximate cost Phase 4 $55,000 - $75,000.
The drop-off loop is no longer efficiantly laid out as the school has grown. A revamped drop-off and pick-up loop can add substantial additional parking as well as efficiency. Proposed 50-100 stalls and a more efficient pick-up line loop. Design efficiency is dependant upon zoning of entrances. Approximate cost TBD from study and design.
The above options should add 150-220 physical additional parking stalls, plus more efficiently utilizing existing parking facilities by removing assigned parking, allowing for an addtional 30-100 stalls to be utilized to their fullest at any given time.
If more parking accommodations are required after phase 1 through 5 is implemented, additional studies on the existing staff parking lot or field North of property could be evaluated.
