30 years ago, an agreement was made with Brookhollow to allow less than 10 vehicles to park on Tara for a short period of time. Kapaun has been promising to fix this issue for decades, and now Brookhollow is dealing with upwards of 60+ cars per day on Tara and Limerick streets. A temporary neighborly gesture made three decades ago by HOA members that are not even alive anymore.
Approximately 230 freshmen are enrolled at Kapaun Mt. Carmel. (Total enrollment approximately 900 students, over $9M of student tuition before gifts, donations, matching, and tithe funds)
Approximately 570 stalls including faculty/staff and visitor. Excluding Handicap.
YES! That is the exciting news. Near the Southwest entrance, the grass patch can accommodate approximately 50 additional parking stalls.
In addition to that, the grass area behind the Kapaun LED marquee can be configured to accommodate 50-60 additional parking stalls, and that is only the beginning!
Also, a simple restriping of the parking lot can facilitate many additional parking stalls.
Make sure to see all these ideas in-depth on the Home page.
Yes, the stalls are individually assigned to students and staff. Senior students that are not at school due to attending college classes etc., their stalls remain empty throughout the week. Wasted valuable real estate.
Except for a few faculty, stalls should not be assigned and would be filled on a first come first serve basis, as long as the student has an appropriate parking permit issued by Kapaun.
Seniors having "open schedules" do not require preferential parking. If they are attending class at WSU or Butler for example, they do not receive assigned parking at those facilities, so why is it required at Kapaun?
North Tara (Vickridge), North Longford (Vickridge), South Longford (Brookhollow East side), and Gatewood (Lakepoint) all have 'No Parking' signs installed already. They do not want students parking on their streets. Limerick is an internal neighborhood street, not a thoroughfair and does not have 'No Parking' signs as the parking is intended for the residents.
Of course this is not going to be a free upgrade (except for Phase 1), so Kapaun is looking for donations, Time/Talent in the fields required including Architecture, Engineering, Survey, Paving/Striping, Planning.
Donation of talent and time can make this upgrade much more attainable. Approximate costs are given per phase on the Home page. If you plan to give this year, clarify that the funds are to be used specifically to upgrade the parking facilities.
Being a multi phase project, funding can be reallocated to facilitate these needed improvements.
Contact Kapaun President Rob Knapp as well as Director of Advancement Rachel Stewart and state how you would like to get involved. Kapaun has a lot of Alumi that would be an amazing fit to continue their legacy at Kapaun. rknapp@kapaun.org, rstewart@kapaun.org We also encourage you to share this website with you friends, family, social media, etc. to spread the word!
They provide adequate parking for all students.
